Eatery's Power Play
Date: 2/2/09 - Daily News Transcript and Wicked LocalOut the back door from George Carey Jr.'s kitchen is a gray, square, man-sized machine that is changing how Finz Seafood & Grill does business.
Carey's restaurant is the first in the country to use the Vegawatt - a 6-foot-high, 6-foot-wide, 2-foot thick box that converts used vegetable oil into a clean fuel that produces electricity and hot water. Finz's Vegawatt generates 6 kilowatts per hour of electricity, which goes back into the building through an inverter.
Vegetable Oil Waste Powers Restaurant
Date: 1/27/09 - GreenerTrendsI used to work above a Chinese food takeout place, and they kept their grease barrels in the parking lot next to the dumpsters…and somehow the grease stunk more than the dumpster. Now there is an easier way for restaurants to get rid of that nasty smelling vegetable oil - by using it for power!
The Vegawatt is compact (around the size of a refrigerator) and hooks up to the existing electric and hot water feed system of the building. Wasted vegetable oil is converted into fuel to energize 10 to 15% of a business’ electric power.
Vegawatt: Energy from Waste Cooking Oil
Date: 1/23/09 - etcprogramVegawatt is an innovative cogeneration system for restaurants and food service facilities, which uses waste cooking oil as a cheap and readily available source of fuel to generate on-site electricity and hot water, thus saving thousands of dollars as well as providing a clean and renewable source of energy.
Restaurants to help power your car?
Date: 1/22/09 - Super EcoI have a few friends who drive diesel powered cars, and they are seriously investigating the use of waste vegetable oil to power their vehicles. Some local restaurants are willing to give them the waste oil, free of charge.
But thanks to the Vegawatt Cogeneration Power System from Owl Power Company in Boylston, Massachusetts, my friends may not find it so easy to obtain their cheap biodiesel.
Fry Power
Date: 1/22/09 - doodadica.comIf your restaurant generates 80 gallons of waste vegetable oil in a week, instead of sealing it in barrels and paying someone to haul it away, you can now pour it into a magical device that will provide you with 5 kilowatts worth of electricity and hot water.
The Vegawatt is the creation of James Peret, a garage inventor who came upon the idea after he converted his truck to run on used vegetable oil. It uses essentially the same process, only the waste oil is used to power a generator and the heat from combustion is recaptured to pre-heat water going to the restaurant’s water heater.
Vegawhat? Massachusetts Restaurant Converts Oil to Electricity
Date: 1/20/09 - Climate WeeklyA Massachusetts-based restaurant has struck oil: Vegetable oil. Using a vegetable oil-recycling product called Vegawatt, Dedham, Mass.-based Finz Seafood & Grill is the first restaurant to convert vegetable oil waste into electricity-generating power and hot water.
With Vegawatt, a Restaurant’s Waste Oil Can Supply 25% of its Electricity (Interview)
Date: 1/19/09 - Gas2.0Drivers of WVO-powered cars will either love or hate the work of Boylston, Massachusetts-based Owl Power Company. Owl Power’s founder and CEO, James Peret, has developed and launched a product they call the Vegawatt, a fully automated cogeneration system for restaurants, designed to run on waste vegetable oil.
The Vegawatt: Transforming Waste Vegetable Oil Into Electricity & Hot Water.
Undated: - Peace PortalA Vegawatt™ system contains more than just power generation equipment. It includes a turn-key waste vegetable oil (WVO) refinery, automatically transforming the darkest, nastiest used cooking oil into fuel appropriate for power generation.
